I've been thinking of setting up either ko-fi or buymeacoffee account as both are not tax related. BuyMeACoffee is similar to KO-Fi but the transaction via paypal took off a few cents of service for each time someone donated something. Like out of 5 dollars, 25 cents will be deducted. Ko-fi did not state that service charges so I am not sure if it is totally based on charity. Definitely I would say Ko-fi is an interesting platform to embark on if you are a prolific writer and could write more articles in a day with more features available than buymeacoffee. Perhaps the difference is BuyMeACoffee had a standard rate of donation like 5 dollars 15 dollars or etc whereas Ko-Fi is opened to the people to make their own choices how much they wanted to give in charity. Between these two, I am not sure which is still more preferred by the mass.
