I love the concept of service in a restaurant.

And being a server on the hillside these days brought me many new beginnings. I get to meet all kind of people. Weird ones.

So, let me share with you 3 types of weird guests who spice up my life lately.

Spice 1 —The VVVIP guests, not shareholders of the company, who threatens me...

“Hi, can we make order, please?” said a local Asian man.

“Are you able to make the order via the QR Code, Sir? Or wait for me 5 minutes please, because I have 3 other tables waiting for their request…” I spoke.

He laughed and called to the woman at the table. She suddenly gets flustered and hand signal towards me to get to her table.

“You know what! You want to challenge me, right? You want to make a challenge right?…” she pointed a finger to me and stare in huge eyes.

What challenge is she talking about? I can’t understand her. Oh. Is she threatening me? Threatening a former government civil servant who lives and dies with her service number? Hmm…I continue looking at her blankly.

“You call for me Sami*…You go call Sami for me…” she demands.

I continue wondering what she’s saying. All the more she gets angrier. Her friends start laughing.

“Look at that tall man in his vest? Go call him!” she demands.

“Oh, okay…” I spoke.

That’s the VVVIP table. They are not the shareholders of any percent at the company. They feel ultimately important and self-entitled because they come regularly.

Yes. Regular guests by whom I get to know from the full-time service captains that nobody else can serve them except for the managers. Snobbish and stuck-up guests.

Spice 2 —The forever wanting you to take their orders and cash tips me through the manager…

“Hi, can you help us, please?” asked a sweet lady.

I have been observing the 2-couples. One of them seems to be having dementia. The lady also speaks very sweetly and slowly to him.

“Sure, I will take your orders…” I said since there aren’t any requests from other tables. Not yet peak hour.

“Latte, Long Black, Corona Beer, and Lager…” said the lady.

“What about food? Have you decided? Or maybe later?” I asked.

We usually take the order for beverages first, and the mains are ordered online by the guests.

“Ouh…aahhh…aaahhh…” the lady panicking.

“Maybe the drinks first, please?” asked the other guy.

Minutes later…he raises his hands for me. Food orders.

An hour later…he raises his hands for me. Additional drinks.

Half an hour later…he signals to Sami, the manager, for bill. We are busy with the crowd.

“Lissa..Lissa…you go to that table. I think he wants bill. He raises his hands to me asking for bill, looking like a joker…so weird…” said Sami.

The same table. And I present to him the bill folder. Cash!

“The change is tip for you…” said the guy.

I didn’t tell the manager that he wants the tip for me. I hand over all the cash to the manager to do the cashiering.

“…Lissa…Lissa…Here…Usually, we share all the tips together. But today, this man wants the tip solely to be given to you. So, this is for you. Take it,” said Sami.

Into the pocket I slip the money in and look at the guy. He smiles. Nods his head. A gesture to say thank you. He is well-pleased.

Minutes ago, Sami nags at me and minutes later Sami hands me the tips! I feel like laughing.

The guy saves me. He watches me running everywhere during the peak hour trying my best to attend to every demands. Sami nags and the guy sees it. The cash he tips me surprises Sami.

Because I am not the in-house full time or part time staff. And he shows Sami that he appreciates my service despite the crowd.

Spice 3 — The sexy Indonesians and Eurasian couple gatherings who said they would sleep together…

3 couples sit in.

With the way they dress up, the women are models. Sexy, tall, and speak in Eurasian accent. Along the hours there, one of them who instructs me to pour wine speaks in Indonesian language.

Me? Pour wine? Hmm…Is there a style to holding the bottle? How does Gregory* in the French restaurant do this? Hmm…How does Papa GM from the French restaurant pour the wine? Hmm…I can’t mess this. Err….

They are Malay Indonesians with their partners who are Eurasians from Europe. I keep refilling water for them. They sit for very long hours. There are widespread of foods on their table.

Cheese platters to pizzas, breadbasket to wines. Desserts and so on. Wow. It looks like Christmas lunch.

And then when it comes to payment, everyone takes out their cards. Amex. Visas. Master Cards. Everyone wants the bill split. Not bad. And when they stand up…I hear the most interesting conversation ever because they are saying it aloud.

“Wait, you are going home to sleep? They are going to sleep and you also going to sleep?” asked the Eurasian A.

“Yes…we are going to rest…over at my place…” said the model lady A.

“Yeah…but they are going to your place…?” he asked.

“Yeah. They will take the sofas at the living room. Big enough for them. You and I will sleep together. In my room…” said the model lady A.

Wow. My head goes with the music like boom boom boom boom…I want you in my room…lalalalalala…

I carry the tray full of their wine glasses to the kitchen with full of smile thinking…whoa. They are going to sleep together. I grin like Kevin in Home Alone!

Okay. Let me behave myself. I hope you enjoyed reading this.

xoxo,
